Position Summary: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) assists with the delivery of comprehensive health services within the scope of their practice and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The LPN contributes to the smooth and orderly operation of the department in accordance with school policy and procedures. Essential Roles and Responsibilities: 1. Provide first-aid and nursing services to students, while promoting the highest level of well-being. 2. Administer medication and treatments according to policy/procedure and record keeping requirements. 3. Assist in providing comprehensive nursing care services including; treatment, recovery plan development, implementation of            the plan of care and evaluation of the effectiveness of medical intervention. 4. Update student records with information regarding nursing care, treatment plans and observations. 5. Assist in obtaining/documenting monthly vital signs for all youth every month. 6. Assist with stock/order list of medical supplies and OTC meds. Assist in stocking meds carts, including but not limited to first            aid kits, cups, med cups, OTC’s, medications, etc. 7. Assist in the coordination and transport of medical, psychiatric, and sub-specialty appointments 8. Assist in the maintenance of the database and ensure proper recording/documentation of all activities. 9. Assist with administrative support within the department to include ordering medication (per policy and procedure),            department mailings, filing, stocking medication carts, etc. 10. Assist the visiting Pediatrician and Psychiatrist with scheduling/flow of visits when requested by the nurse coordinator. 11. Liaison with staff in other departments, families, and outside agencies as appropriate. 12. Maintain sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics. 13. Any and all related duties, tasks, and/or special projects as directed by the nurse coordinator. Education & Experience: Degree from an accredited nursing school. Current and unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Rhode Island. Two (2) years of nursing experience, preferably with a special needs/psychiatric population. Valid CPR and first aid certification required. Basic computer skills (including word processing, internet, and database) preferred.
